Beyond Graphite

{November 9, 2007}   My new favourit movie!

haven’t been online much lately but here i am with a Movie Review!

so last night i saw Pans Labyrinth. I’m a late viewer of movies I know, but the theater costs quite a bit! lol.
but anyways! i was led to believe that the movie’s trailers were misleading in that it had very little fantasy. i think people have been desensitized by Loter and Narnia.
it wasn’t a fantasy movie, it was fairy tail. and it was perfect quality when you put it up against stories written by the brothers grim and the such.
also, the acting was so god the violence actually sickened me. that’s what i want out of a movie. true emotions were brought out of me, like when i watched children of men.
amazing peace of art. and I’m glad that it was given subtitles rather then being spoken in English or dubbed in English, it made for extra authenticity I might say. Del Toro you are an amazing director.

anywho. I’ve got a mini series ‘pre-comic’ going for MHC before i finish up planing out the first volume. so go check it out here.

no art thumbs today, sorry :P
but do see Pans labyrinth when you have the time

Peace out!

{October 13, 2007}   a portrait from the zone.

so the other day i draw a quick portrait of my brother
this was the outcome
sterling
I’m not 100% pleased with it; i think the back of his head is to flat, but it looks like him.

I was feeling pretty mellow when i drew this, i think the line quality shows that. but even if it’s kinda sloppy, i really like it. it adds a sort of life to the drawing you can only get when your ‘in the zone’

anyways, i have been procrastinating with my art a bit, and my essays. but I’m pushing myself a little more now. I’ve schedules regular updates to my Mr Happy’s Corner blog. as it is currently in pre-production i will be giving sneak peaks of the progress every Saturday.

you can see the first sneak peak today!

that’s all for now.
peace out

{October 10, 2007}   nothing special

so I’ve created a blog for my catastrophe of a web comic i call Mr. Happy’s Corner.
it’s been on a temporary piczo website ever since my web comic host went down a few months back. (R.I.P. Hyper-comix.) the name as the owners found out was infringing copywriters so it was gonna change anyways.

anyways, the blog which will be host to all things MHC (including the pages) can be found at, http://mrhappyscorner.wordpress.com
convenient no?

as well I got some booklets in the mail from NSCAD this morning. NSCAD is the Nova Scotia Collage of Art and Design for those who don’t know (it’s a university also… it just thinks it’s a collage.)
so I’m thinking I’m gonna end up in something like Bachelor of fine arts (this is for sure), and then a Major in either film, photography, or fine art. then get a masters in fine art so that i can teach afterwards.
that’s the plan right now.
it’s to bad sequential art isn’t yet recognized fully in the academic fields. hopefully within my generation that changes, but i wont get into a lecture about this (maybe another day ;P).

in other news, I’ll be trying to do some caricatures within the next few days (or just regular portraits) i’ll update about those again once i’ve done a few of them.

peace out till then
-Milan
