Beyond Graphite

{October 27, 2007}   a little bit of fan art

So i’m a fan of this band called Tegan and Sara. on the 16th i went to see them in concert in Halifax, grand show indeed.
so after seeing them live, i went on another fan streak; listening to their music, singing it, even making Tegan and Sara related art.

Tegan and Sara BG - The Con

this is a background i created using some screen shots from their latest music video. I’m not pleased with how Sara (to the left) turned out, but the photo was very dark and hard to find the placement for the lines. also i was using a mouse for the whole thing so in all I’m quite pleased.
after i had finished it seamed kinda plain as just a green block in blackness so i added the fadeout on either end and the bars on top. i was tempted to use some obnoxious yellow, but it wouldn’t have been the right mood.

so yes gotta run. I’ve got some exciting projects coming up that I’ll be posting about.
till then
-peace out

{October 20, 2007}   TV humor

this is what i think of popular TV

The OC

I actually drew this peace ages ago, but i still find it funny; in fact it’s the one peace i’ve found has amused me the longest.
personally I’m hard to pleas when it comes to TV, mainly due to the fact that i hate being held down to a specific time and date that i MUST watch the show, or else i miss an episode. thank god for on demand.
though the shotty writing and massive amounts of fan service that plague the world of TV tends to turn me off. thank god things seam to be turning around. with shows like ReGeneses and House. Though i still only watch those ‘on demand’

though i must admit, currently I’m letting one show control my life, and that is heroes. once a week (Monday) i must catch the newest episode of heroes to fill my need to watch that clumsy Hiro Nakamura try to figure his way out of the past. as well as the rest of the cast, but their not as important; to me at least.

and to close this post off, i’ll leave you with another older image of Mohinder the Lizard from ‘Heroes, season 1′
Mohinder the iguana

(it’s actually just a random iguana i found on google images :3)

{October 13, 2007}   a portrait from the zone.

so the other day i draw a quick portrait of my brother
this was the outcome
sterling
I’m not 100% pleased with it; i think the back of his head is to flat, but it looks like him.

I was feeling pretty mellow when i drew this, i think the line quality shows that. but even if it’s kinda sloppy, i really like it. it adds a sort of life to the drawing you can only get when your ‘in the zone’

anyways, i have been procrastinating with my art a bit, and my essays. but I’m pushing myself a little more now. I’ve schedules regular updates to my Mr Happy’s Corner blog. as it is currently in pre-production i will be giving sneak peaks of the progress every Saturday.

you can see the first sneak peak today!

that’s all for now.
peace out

{October 10, 2007}   nothing special

so I’ve created a blog for my catastrophe of a web comic i call Mr. Happy’s Corner.
it’s been on a temporary piczo website ever since my web comic host went down a few months back. (R.I.P. Hyper-comix.) the name as the owners found out was infringing copywriters so it was gonna change anyways.

anyways, the blog which will be host to all things MHC (including the pages) can be found at, http://mrhappyscorner.wordpress.com
convenient no?

as well I got some booklets in the mail from NSCAD this morning. NSCAD is the Nova Scotia Collage of Art and Design for those who don’t know (it’s a university also… it just thinks it’s a collage.)
so I’m thinking I’m gonna end up in something like Bachelor of fine arts (this is for sure), and then a Major in either film, photography, or fine art. then get a masters in fine art so that i can teach afterwards.
that’s the plan right now.
it’s to bad sequential art isn’t yet recognized fully in the academic fields. hopefully within my generation that changes, but i wont get into a lecture about this (maybe another day ;P).

in other news, I’ll be trying to do some caricatures within the next few days (or just regular portraits) i’ll update about those again once i’ve done a few of them.

peace out till then

{October 7, 2007}   hello

my first post here.

so you’re probably wondering what this blog is about. me? to an extent, seeing as art is a very large part of me.

this blog is about my projects and my carrier. and things i think have a need to be commented on.

I like to consider myself a story maker. I’m still looking for a satisfying place in the telling part. I’m into pretty much every medium, though I’m not the best poet and I’m not a huge fan of collage. but my most favourite medium of all is comic, i was always attracted to comics though i had no reason to be, i never idolized a super hero though i do claim to be a fan of batman.

oh and the whole name of the blog isn’t literal, i use graphite more than anything. it’s more like i try to make my art more than just the image you see.

anyways, I’ll try to keep this blog interesting. and I’ll try to update fairly regularly.

lets see where this leads then!

Peace
-Milan
