Beyond Graphite

I broke my computer.

No lie. it was updating and I was an idiot and I turned it off in the middle of an update. now it wont even go into Safe mode.
All my stuff is on there, including the beginning of week 8. 2 of this weeks 5 min. pieces. there should have been 3 or 4. but I missed some days. 😛 but Until I can access them I’m done with the 5 min. project. I’m working on a web comic which I thankfully uploaded all like 9 pages I drew to drunk duck before I killed my computer. their not up for viewing yet. they auto post every Wednesday. check it out here. this Wednesday is the second update.

{May 10, 2009}   5 Min. Week 7

I’m thinking I will only do this project for another week or two. I have another project in mind that I think will be very amusing but will take up allot of my free time.

anyways, here’s week 7.

only three two this time 😛 sorry I’ve been really lazy.

robo bunny

and this last one is sort of crud. but I’ll show it off anyways.

walleye

I’ve got a flue or something so I’m off to rest some. peace out.

{May 3, 2009}   week 6

only four this week.

and I’m keeping the full sized images to myself, this way I can skip the whole water mark thing.
you can still see a large version of the images by clicking on them, it’s just not full sized.

this first one was done in flash, and because of this looks kind of bland.

farengie

it’s a farengie…

I really enjoy the last one.

I missed quite a few days last week (also this Monday just past) due to life being life. so here’s some new images all done in five minuets or less form last week up till today.

you’ll notice I liked week 2’s pieces enough to water mark them.
– also, all the photos I used I got from www.public-domain-photos.com

week 2

{March 28, 2009}   5 minute works week 1

Okay so here’s six pieces for my 5 minute project. it’s kind of awkwardly set up, but I can’t figure out how to make the images go one below the other.
The second one actually ended up being 10 minutes so I started using this online stopwatch I found. it’s pretty awesome, and it kept the rest of the pieces on time.

1. For this one I used two photos from public-domain-photos.com
2. This one took 10 minuets :\, whoops! and yes, that’s Mr. Clean. 😛
3. I’ve been learning to sing Sehnsucht – It’s a Brahms piece – so I used one of the lines from it for this. it translates into something like: “and my heart hurts.”
4. A little bit of fan art, with stock from Public-Domain-Photos
5. Text Art! releasing some anxiety.
6. trying out some boarder things.

{March 22, 2009}   5 Minute challenge.

so, here’s the plan.

every day (unless serious life intervenes) I will take 5 minuets(or less) out of my day. to put together some kind of artwork.

I’ll probably do mostly digital art, but I wont limit myself. If I want to I’ll use traditional mediums, or even put together a little installment (making art in 3d space.)

here’s my first piece

done in 5 minuits.

not the best looking piece, i know. I probably would have liked the fade around the man (me) to be smoother, you can kind of see where it cuts off. but I enjoy how the background turned out. I modified the hue and contrast to get it that way.

so as this goes on i hope to improve in my art abilities.
and I will post an update once or twice a week with the pieces I’ve done.

till then
-peace out.

{December 2, 2007}   Recomended reading

OK so, I’m still working on my left hand project. but i haven’t scanned any of the pages in. but it’s coming along nicely, I’m now able to write like a five year old.

but lets go onto some kind of topic with this post.
i figure web comics is a nice topic. and which ones I think give the medium a good name (a.k.a. my favorites.)

so i like allot of different web comics. mostly a look for a interesting concept with good writing.

Brink – is probably my favorite web comic at this time. it’s a slice of life drama about Devin and his relationship with a girl named five. their both participants in a program called Brink. and they both have serious emotional issues. really amazing writing, and the art is the kind you can look over a few times, just because it looks nice.

Errant Story – this is my fantasy escape. the black and white artwork is just amazing, and the story (now into it’s 31rst chapter) is epic, it’s about an errant (a half elf) who decides that for her final exam in school she will try to find an antient elven god, take it’s power, and then take over the world. along the way she and her familiar meet up with a gunman, and things get start to get really interesting after that. i really loved the fact that all the characters have nice 3dimentional personality’s, and they interact really well with each other.

Paper Eleven – this one’s finished. it’s also really abstract and disturbing. it’s got something to do with time travel, and spirits. but it’s amazingly done.

Gravity – another slice of life-ish comic. I’d put it into a similar genre as the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series. it starts off focusing on a sister and brother, the brother gets lost in the depths of hell and his sister has to find a way to save him. after which the world of magic begins to show up all around them. it’s got really nice characters and a really mellow feel to it.

Train Wreck – the art isn’t the most refined, but the story is fun and kind of random. it’s not very far into it’s story. it’s kind of, once again, slice of life but it’s got more of a humorous tone in it.

Mastermind BTRN – this one starts with the main character dieing. but because it wasn’t her time to die, she comes back to life in a random point of time in the future. As she comes to terms with this situation she finds herself on the rebel side of a civil war. i enjoy the characters, and the stylized art is fun to look at.

Gone with the Blast wave – it’s kind of a video game comic in the sense that it’s got a bunch of army men, in a random post apocalyptic city. and none of them really know why their there. they just know their fighting the blues and yellows. except there’s no blatant videogame jokes. it’s witty and the artwork is amazing. the only downfall is it’s slow on updates.

I’ve got tones more that i enjoy, but I don’t really have time to write about them all so i’ll just post a few more links.

bad ass muthas
fandango
Dead Days
Kagerou

that’s all for now. enjoy my webcomic rotation 🙂

{November 23, 2007}   the left hand project

okay so, on a whim i decided to start practicing using my left hand more often for things. i was recently reacquainted with the knowledge that i was kind of ambidextrous when i was younger so i figured this wouldn’t be to hard. and I’m already able to make a half decent A and E and a circle!

I hope to be able to draw a full drawing by the time I’m complete.
also starting today I’ll document my progress by writing the date on each peace of paper i use. and in a few weeks i’ll show off a time line if i’ve made any significant progress.

Wish me luck people, I’m delving into unknown territory. *serious face*

also, to add some kind of content to this post.

as you all know the left hemisphere of your brain controls the right side of your body, and the right hemisphere controls the left side of your body.
but did you know your left hemisphere is the linear, math, and language side of your brain. and the right hemisphere is the multitasking, art, and problem solving side of your brain? if you’ve read the work of Robert Sperry you probably do know this.
so this experiment hold more merit to me then it seams to on the surface. by practicing with my left hand i might just create an even better pathway to my right hemisphere then i already have. i see this as a good thing.

peace out everyone
till next time.
